Texas Christians Raise Money For Atheist’s Medical Bills

TEXAS – A Texas Atheist is completely flabbergasted that a church was raising money to help him pay his bills.

Patrick Green, an atheist who sued the government to have nativity scenes removed from government property, is at risk of going blind in one eye because of a detached retina according to The Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Greene, a former Air Force officer and taxi driver who was forced to retire due to his eye condition, he had penned a letter to the Henderson County Commissioner’s Court in February demanding that all nativity scenes be taken of property that is communal or owned by the government. The Nativity Scene at the county courthouse had been causing problems between Christians and Atheists since it had been erected.

Greene had filed suit in Texas Court to have the nativity scene taken down but due to his medical issues he had to retire from his job as a taxi driver and felt he didn’t have the ability to go on with his suit.

It was at that time he received a check for $400 from local Christians to help him pay his bills and to say he was shocked was an understatement.

Greene said,

“They said they wanted to do what real Christians are supposed to do – love you – and they wanted to help,”

He went on to say that he was planning on writing a book and entitling it “The Real Christians of Henderson County.”

Greene has also setup a website where anyone can donate money to help cover living expenses. On the site, Greene says he and his wife are considering a move to Athens, Texas, where the rent is more affordable, and asks for donations to help cover moving costs.

Since the website has been opened, Greene has raised more than $3,500 to help his family. He said at this time anyoen else donating to the site will see their money going to help abused and orphaned animals.

Does kindness and charity like this surprise you in this day and age?
