Jennifer Lopez Disses Mariah Carey During Her Performance At The Billboard Music Awards

Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey have had a low key feud with each other for years, according to some die hard fans of both singers. Last night, both women were in the same building for the Billboard Music awards, which is where a new alleged shading went down.

According to TMZ, Jennifer Lopez subtly dissed Mariah Carey during her performance at the Billboard Music awards. At the time, Lopez was seated in the audience, and instead of giving Mariah Carey her undivided attention, Lopez decided she could be spending her time doing other things during Mariah’s performance, and decided to whip out her cell phone.

While Carey was desperately trying to hit those high notes in her song “Infinity,” Lopez was too busy scrolling through her feed. It wouldn’t have been a big deal if Lopez was further back in the audience, but the American Idol judge was seated in one of the first few rows, which meant Carey had a clear view of Lopez while she was giving one of the biggest comeback performances of her career.

While others like the enthusiastic Taylor Swift applauded for Carey after the performance was over, Jennifer Lopez was spotted chatting away with her on-again-off-again boyfriend Casper Smart, who she took as her date to the Billboard Music awards.

The feud started early on in Jennifer Lopez’s career when Mariah Carey was asked about the Latin star who burst into the scene in a big way. At the time, Mariah alluded that even though Lopez was crossing into her market, she wasn’t exactly on her radar. “She’s a dancer isn’t she? She lip-synced Selena’s vocals you know. I don’t think that as a singer we are in the same category as artists.”

Lopez eventually addressed rumors of a feud by staying diplomatic back in a 2014 appearance on Watch What Happens Live!.

Back then, she told Andy Cohen, “I don’t have a feud against her at all. I know from back in the day, I’ve read things that she’s said about me that were not the greatest, but we have never met. Like, we don’t know each other. I think it’s kind of from word of mouth of things that have happened in the past that I’m not really aware of. But I don’t know.”
