‘The Witcher 3’ Four Reasons You Should Be Playing

For many, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been one of the most highly anticipated games since its initial reveal back in 2013. Some point to the video of Witcher footage to detail what a true next-gen experience will be like. But for those who have never delved into the world of The Witcher 3, the task of knowing what’s going on may seem insurmountable. Here are four reasons why you should still consider joining the escapades of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3.

Gorgeous Visuals

To say The Witcher 3 is beautiful is a simple understatement. Vibrant colors, stunning vistas, realistic night-day and weather cycles; all of this works to make the world of the Witcher more immersive and beautiful. PC players can expect to push the might of their rigs while console players will also be getting the best experience their hardware can muster. The Witcher 3 will showcase some of the best graphics in a game to date, allowing players to revel in the beauty of the world and its people.

Deep Lore and History

The Witcher series of games are actually based on a Polish novel by Andrzej Sapkowski. While the books and the games tell entirely different stories, the previous two Witcher games provide plenty of backdrop for Geralt’s final conclusion. If you’re like me, the idea of starting a series on the third entry can be a bit daunting. Kotaku has posted an excellent Witcher 3 primer for those of us coming in late, and by all accounts, the story of The Witcher 3 does a great job bringing new players up to speed. The world of The Witcher is deep, with its roots running back into the previous two games, plus all of the accumulated lore from Sapkowski’s stories.

Realistic World

The Witcher 3 boasts a world teeming with activity. Realistic night and day cycles, weather effects, economy and NPCs with full day/night activities make the world come alive on screen. However, it’s the way The Witcher 3 depicts a society that may be the most telling. The Witcher 3 showcases some of the worst aspects of human history, especially prevalent in the Middle Ages: slavery, racism, sexism – all of these issues are dealt with head-on and not shied away from. The world of The Witcher is believable not just because it is teeming with life, but rather how life is depicted. In addition, every action you make will affect the world in some way, although the changes are not always noticeable immediately.
