John Collett Update: Kim Richards’ Former Fiance’s Murderer Eligible For Parole?

John Collett’s murderer, Marva DeCarlo Johnson, may soon be a free man. On May 18, a source told Radar Online that despite Johnson’s 30-year prison term, he is scheduled for a parole suitability hearing on September 10.

In 1993, 22-years ago, Johnson was found guilty of murdering John Collett, who was engaged to Kim Richards of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

The killing took place on October 28, 1991 at a deli in Northridge, California. According to the court documents, John Collett had met Johnson at the deli and spoke to him for about 20 minutes before Johnson grabbed the 29-year-old Collett “in a headlock with his left arm and shot the victim three times in the head with a handgun.”

Just hours after John Collett’s murder, Johnson confessed to a friend “that he had just gotten paid for a job” and showed a “wad of bills 1.5 to two inches thick.”

Although John Collett’s murder was initially believed to be a paid hit, Johnson denied that was the case during a 2008 hearing. At the time, he instead claimed money was his motive.

Johnson released a statement.

“I just knew that he had a great sum of money that he was trying to get rid of, and the idea of me buying extra and additional stock for my business came in. And it would essentially launder his money if I was to buy [and resell computer] equipment using that cash and being able to send it through corporations.”

As for why their alleged business deal turned to murder, Johnson claimed John Collett attempted to back out and began “disrespecting him.”

“I just said, hey, I don’t want your f*****g money, you know… you guys can do that, but my business is new and I want my business to be straight.”

Following a reported physical fight, Johnson claimed John Collett pulled a gun out, and that’s when he, allegedly in self-defense, shot John Collett. This 2008 testimony went against his first plea to first-degree premeditated murder.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Richards spoke of John Collett during her interview with Dr Phil weeks ago.

“There isn’t a day that goes by I don’t think of [John Collett],” she said of her former fiance, via a Radar Online report.

Following her relationship with John Collett, Richards began struggling with addiction issues and has been battling alcohol dependency ever since. Most recently, she was arrested for a drunken rampage at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
