Arkansas Man Pulls Gun On News Team, Takes “No Comment” To Far

Joyner, AR – Sometimes just saying “no comment” is the smart thing to do when faced with a news reporter, but this was apparently not enough for one man in Joyner, Arkansas. When a news team for WREG Channel 3 News pulled up to the scene of a death to investigate the story, a man pulled a gun on the reporter and a cameraman.

Reporter April Thompson and cameraman Ben Short had driven to the home of Wilton Goudeaux, an elderly man who was allegedly killed by his family. After investigating the scene for only a few minutes, the news team encountered Brandon Odom, who claims to be Goudeaux’s son’s best friend. In a startling act, the man pulled a gun on the news team.

As Thompson and Short were leaving the scene, Odom stormed up to the news team. Thompson told the angry man that she and her team were just searching for the truth.

Odom began telling the news team to get the camera off of him and remarked that everybody was “lying about Mr. Goudeaux.”

When Odom tried to slap the camera away, Thompson told him that he could not touch the camera. Odom then stomped off to his truck and returned with a gun that he pulled on the news team.

Waving the gun around, Odom stated, “I bet I can do this.”

Thompson and Short retreated to their vehicle and called the police. The police arrived and eventually arrested Odom.

Odom’s sister, who had been caring for Goudeaux before his death, is one of the people being investigated in the case. She and Goudeaux’s son are drugging Goudeaux with sleeping pills, using meth while caring for the elderly man, stealing $100,000 from him, and leaving him malnourished.

Odom is now now facing charges of aggravated assault for pulling the gun on the news team.

Thompson commented on the incident:

“I didn’t know what to expect. The last thing I thought is that he was going to the car to get a gun, but he was obviously angry. He wanted us to get out of there. We moved back but we are going to continue to follow the story with what happens to him, as well as the other three.”

Thompson also states that she will continue to investigate the story in hopes of discovering the truth.
