Ed Asner Files Divorce Papers Eight Years After Separation
Ed Asner’s divorce was on hold for more than eight years. Although the 85-year-old actor and his wife, Cindy, legally separated in 2007, they never filed the paperwork necessary to divorce. In recent weeks, Ed reportedly took the steps to finalize the divorce.
As reported by People, Ed Asner and Cindy Gilmore were married in 1998. Although they were together nearly 10 years, they eventually split — citing irreconcilable differences.
Asner initially agreed to provided Cindy with spousal support. However, he later threatened to cease the payments, as his estranged wife refused to seek employment.
In 2009, Ed and Cindy Asner reached a financial agreement, which was approved by both parties. However, they failed to finalize their divorce.
As the couple’s separation agreement remains in effect, it is unclear what prompted Ed Asner to file for divorce eight years later.

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Ed Asner began acting as a student at the University of Chicago. After a stint with the United States Army Signal Corps, he moved to New York City, with dreams of pursuing an acting career.
As reported by Biography, Asner landed minor parts in several theater productions. However, he got his big break with a role on the popular Mary Tyler Moore television series.
Following the cancellation of Mary Tyler Moore, Asner reprised his role of Lou Grant in a television series with the same name. The popular drama series ran from 1977 to 1982.
Throughout his career, Ed Asner was honored with numerous awards, including several Golden Globes and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. He also won lifetime Achievement Awards from the Screen Actors Guild and the Sedona International Film Festival.
In addition to acting, Ed Asner is heavily involved in political and social activism. As reported by Look to the Stars, he currently sits on the advisory board of the Rosenberg Fund for Children and remains active in his support of the Defenders of Wildlife, Fresh Start WC, and Heifer International organizations.
As he maintains an active lifestyle, the 85-year-old activist and actor was hospitalized for exhaustion at least twice in the last two years.

Prior to his marriage to Cindy Gilmore, Asner was married twice and fathered three children. It is unclear whether he is currently involved in a romantic relationship. However, Ed Asner’s decision to finalize his divorce has led to speculation.
