Even though Cristiane Justino — popularly known as Cris Cyborg — has signed a contract to compete in UFC, it doesn’t mean the dream match of her fighting Ronda Rousey will happen anytime soon. Cyborg is still fighting at a women’s featherweight at 145 pounds and will need to lose weight to 135 pounds to officially compete against Rousey. On the other hand, Rousey has made no intention of meeting Cyborg at a catchweight of 140 pounds (five pounds heavier for Rousey, five pounds lighter for Cyborg). Instead, Rousey has given the Ronda Rousey vs. Cris Cyborg dream match a two-year deadline.
Because of Ronda Rousey’s unwillingness to fight Cris Cyborg at a 140 pound catchweight, some in the MMA community think Rousey is scared to fight Cyborg in the first place. If that is true, there is at least one female MMA fighter who isn’t afraid to answer Cyborg’s call and that is Miesha Tate. Tate has one-upped the UFC women’s bantamweight champion by saying she would fight Cyborg at the suggested catchweight.
According to MMA News, Miesha Tate attended a UFC Fight Club Q&A prior to UFC Fight Night 66 in Manila, Philippines. When asked about fighting Cris Cyborg, Tate provided the following answer.
“That’s my job. I have to fight anyone they put in front of me and obviously I’m not scared of anyone. So yes, I would (fight her at catchweight).”
Even though Miesha Tate made such a claim, she did back-peddle stating the fact that Cris Cyborg signed on to UFC to fight in the women’s bantamweight division. Because of that fact, Tate made it clear she’d prefer to fight Cyborg in her weight class.
For now, Miesha Tate has more pressing matters on her mind as she is set to take on Jessica Eye at UFC on Fox 16, which happens on Saturday, July 25, 2015, as reported by Fox Sports. Not to mention, both Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg are busy, too. Rousey will fight Bethe Correia at UFC 190 on Saturday, August 1, 2015, and Cyborg will fight Faith Van Duin at Invicta FC 13 on Friday, July 10, 2015.
