PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Too Ancient For Ubisoft: ‘Assassin’s Creed’ and ‘Rainbow Six’ Leaving Third Gen Consoles

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles have had a really great run and Ubisoft feels that it’s time to let these third generation consoles go.

Game Revolution reports that earlier this week, CEO Yves Guillemot announced at the earnings briefing at Ubisoft that they are dropping the compatibility of their upcoming titles on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Meaning, players at the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles are not seeing Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Rainbow Six: Siege, and The Division—unlessof course they switch to the newer generation consoles.

While all the upcoming new Ubisoft franchises are not coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, Guillemot says there is one title that’s staying on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

On Just Dance, we will continue to bring [PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360] console versions. But on the other products like Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, The Division, and the unannounced franchise, we will not have old-gen versions.”

For all the Kinect-lovers out there, Just Dance is staying on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Everyone else would just have to move to the newer PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Those at NeoSeeker believe that this decision is a rather good one since Ubisoft will not be held back anymore by the hardware restrictions of the older PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Game Spot also published a breakdown of Ubisoft’s sales by platform and the declining sales at the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles might be the biggest reason the company is starting to focus solely on the newer gens.

Q4 2014 to 2015 saw a massive 52 percent boost in PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game sales compared to its total sales from the previous year. Total sales at the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, however, started to significantly go down from a combined sales of 52 percent from 2013 to a measly 18 percent. Of course, while more gamers are choosing to upgrade to the newer PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, Ubisoft also found their decision the only logical way to go.

Apart from the new titles for the Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six franchises, Ubisoft also announced at the earnings report that they are working on another new franchise that will not be supported by PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The still-unannounced AAA franchise, Guillemot says, will be revealed later this year and released around April 2016.

Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six, and The Division are all coming to the PC platform as well. But no news have been heard yet about the games’ compatibility with the Nintendo Wii U.

While PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users won’t be happy with Ubisoft’s decision, everyone can only agree that the company is only riding with the change of the tides. At least PlayStation Now is still coming to the PlayStation 3 console.
