Raven Symone Doesn’t Want Harriet Tubman $20 Bill, ‘I Would’ve Chosen Rosa Parks’

Raven Symone believes a woman should be featured on the $20 bill, she just doesn’t think it should be Harriet Tubman. Rather, she believes Rosa Parks would be a better fit.

Based on the Women on 20s’ unofficial online poll, Tubman was the people’s number one choice, but Raven said she thinks someone a little more progressive should be used, according to E! News.

“No offense to everyone that’s going to be mad at me for saying this, I don’t like that idea. I think we need to move a little bit forward. Let me just preface that I understand the history, I get it. Trust me, I was taught, I was in that culture…

“… I would’ve chosen Rosa Parks. I would have chosen someone that is closer to the progression that we’re doing now. I know you have to understand history so you don’t repeat it, but that doesn’t happen in our world, because we still repeat history of hating other cultures over and over again. I would choose a different woman, no offense.”

Raven’s The View co-host Rosie Perez stood up for the decision to use Harriet Tubman as the new face of the $20 bill, while others sided with Raven.

“I like Harriet Tubman. You know, she set a precedent. She was very bold. She risked her life over and over and over again with the Underground Railroad. And it would be good if it were Harriet. It would be good if it were Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, Wilma [Mankiller]…

“…I don’t care. Just as long as it’s a woman.”

Since Raven’s remarks, Twitter has been abuzz with comments, bashing the actress for her views.
