Jennifer Aniston: Why She Hated ‘The Rachel’ Haircut

Jennifer Aniston is one of the most famous actresses in Hollywood. She is most known for starring in the hit TV show Friends and the hairstyle that her character wore. Women all over the world would get haircuts and styling to mimic this famous style.

It is not uncommon for hairstyles and fashion of famous actors and actresses to be copied by the public. Men tend to dress like a male character while women will copy the hairstyle of a female character

In the 1960s, Mary Tyler Moore wore a hairstyle called The Flip. This was the hairstyle of choice for the strong, working woman of the time.

The 1970s, a time of peace and love, saw women emulate the hair of Florence Henderson and Cher. The style was simple and straight.

The loud music of the 1980s was met with wild and loud hair. Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and Pat Benetar were the role models for women’s hair.

As the glam rock and hard hair of the era drifted into the 1990s, we saw an iconic hairstyle that was known only as The Rachel. Jennifer Aniston was clearly not a fan.

Aniston recently gave an interview with Glamour magazine where she talked about the famous hairstyle.

“I was not a fan of the ‘Rachel.’ That was kind of cringe-y for me. Looking back—honestly, even during that time—I couldn’t do it on my own. I needed [my hairstylist] Chris [McMillan] attached to my hip. Left to my own devices, I am not skilled with a hairbrush and blow-dryer.”

In 2011, Aniston really spoke from the heart while she was speaking with Allure magazine. “I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen,” Jennifer said.

Jennifer Aniston was the star of the iconic TV show Friends. Aniston played the character Rachel Green. A rich, Long Island girl who suddenly had to learn to make it in the real world on her own. Friends saw great success and ran for 10 years from 1994-2004. By the end of the show’s run, Aniston was making $1 million per episode. Along with her female co-stars, Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, Aniston was the highest-paid TV actress of all time.

Aniston was the only cast member of Friends who was able to continue to have mainstream acting success. We have seen Aniston star in a number of movies where she shows her range as an actress. In the movies, Aniston stays far away from her character on Friends.

Now that Friends is available on Netflix, will The Rachel see a resurgence among the women today? I think it is clear that Jennifer Aniston sure hopes that it doesn’t.
