‘Scream Queens’: Why Emma Roberts Can’t Stand Looking At Lea Michele

Scream Queens stars Emma Roberts, Keke Palmer, and Abigail Breslin are having a tough time working with Lea Michele, but it’s not because she has a rude diva attitude.

According to E! News, the Scream Queens cast can’t look Lea in the eye because they crack up every time they get a glimpse of her character’s crazy look. As you can see, this includes a neck brace that was likely inspired by the headgear that Joan Cusack’s dorky character wore in Sixteen Candles.

“I can’t look at her,” Emma Roberts said of her costar. “I told her, ‘I can’t make eye contact with you in the scene. It’s not personal, it’s just that you’re too funny.'”

Lea said that she takes this as a “huge compliment,” and she worked hard to make it harder for Emma to look at her by acting “weirder and weirder” as filming progressed.

Lea Michele’s character might look like the funniest fashion disaster TV has ever seen with her brown, fleece puppy-print jacket and rainbow T-shirt, but Emma Roberts swears that Scream Queens is very “high fashion.”

“Everyone’s so decked out,” Emma revealed.

Scream Queens focuses on a college sorority full of mean girls who would make minced meat of Regina George. However, the school bullies become targets when a series of murders rocks their college campus. According to Glamour, the killing spree starts “20 years to the day a mysterious death happened” at their Kappa Kappa Theta sorority house, so the killer is likely connected to that event.

Emma described the dark comedy as “Heathers meets Halloween,” but it also looks like it’s drawing inspiration from Mean Girls with its obsession with Barbie’s favorite color — the Scream Queens sorority girls don’t just wear pink on Wednesdays. Like the Plastics, they also have a special name for their group — they call themselves the Chanels after Emma Roberts’ character, Chanel Oberlin.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Lea’s character is going to get a makeover at some point during the TV series, and this might be a shout-out to the movie Jawbreaker. In that 1999 teen flick, the cool clique transforms social outcast Fern (Judy Greer) into one of their own by overhauling her look and renaming her Vylette.

According to Glamour, Lea Michele’s character becomes a member of the Chanels’ sorority because the school forces Kappa Kappa Theta “to soften its image” by allowing the Ferns of the school to join their group. Obviously, this will create a ton of tension in the superficial sorority, especially if Lea’s character is crafted into a replacement for one of Chanel’s “minions.”

“Billie Lourd and Abigail Breslin play my minions,” Emma said. “It’s hard — we had to learn to walk in a formation, which is harder than it looks.”

Emma Roberts revealed that some of Chanel’s lines are so “outrageous” that she feels uncomfortable saying them, but she “loves to hate” her queen bee character.

Scream Queens premieres this September on Fox. Are you looking forward to it?
