‘Mad Max’ Halts Traffic In Australia, Plus, What Newbies Need To Know About The Movie

Residents from Sydney, Australia can anticipate huge traffic delays in and around the city today thanks to the movie, Mad Max: Fury Road. According to Australia’s Transport Management Center and the Sydney Morning Herald, the Cahill Expressway will be closed between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. AEST. Motorists who use the Sydney Harbor Bridge will also need to avoid lane eight near the Cahill exit ramp.

This is thanks to a visual display of iconic cars from the Mad Max movies as they cross the Cahill Expressway and head towards the Opera House. Fans will be able to check out the cars before the Australian premiere of Mad Max: Fury Road on Wednesday night. As well being able to get up close and personal with the cars from the post-apocalyptic movie, there will also be crew members in full costume driving. A full showcase of the Mad Max cars will occur between 1-2 p.m. AEST. You can check out all the early photos of the spectacle by clicking here.

And for people who are interested in seeing Mad Max: Fury Road because they have heard the early reviews praising the movie but haven’t seen the previous Mad Max movies, here’s a quick rundown — on the points you need to know about George Miller’s icon movies thanks to Wired.

  • Who is this Mad Max that you speak of? Mad Max, as he is known to fans, is actually Max Rockatansky. He is a member of the Main Force Patrol. He lost his friend, Jim “Goose” Rains, as well as his wife and child to a nasty motorcycle gang. It is these events that cause him to fight like a hero to defend the defenseless.
  • Why is the world the way it is? Mad Max: Fury Road is kind enough to do a lot of the explaining for the desolate wasteland that Earth has become in the Mad Max movies for newbies. But, basically, there was some sort of energy crisis that led to the post-apocalyptic, dystopian world of Max Max.
  • Where’s Mel Gibson? Thanks to delays of almost a decade in Mad Max: Fury Road and the fact Mel Gibson has since fallen out of public favor, George Miller chose to recast Mad Max English actor Tom Hardy.
