WWE News: Four Matches Added To Sunday’s ‘WWE Payback’ Pay-Per-View

Coming into tonight’s RAW, WWE had only officially announced two matches for this Sunday’s WWE Payback pay-per-view, with those matches being John Cena defending the United States Championship against Rusev in an “I Quit” match, and Seth Rollins defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a fatal-four-way match against Dean Ambrose, Randy Orton, and Roman Reigns.

It was expected that WWE would announce several other matches for WWE Payback, and, well, that’s exactly what they did.

As it turns out, Dolph Ziggler will take on Sheamus in a normal one-on-one match. So, they’ll go from a match with a stipulation to a match without any stipulations. However, due to Daniel Bryan relinquishing the Intercontinental Championship, it’s possible that this match could be for the vacant Intercontinental Championship.

Bad News Barrett or King Barrett will take on Neville in a King of the Ring finals rematch. Neville took on Barrett at last month’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view and defeated Barrett, and, of course, Barrett defeated Neville to win the King of the Ring tournament. This match is also a candidate to have the vacant Intercontinental Championship added to it.

Tyson Kidd and Cesaro are going to get a chance to regain the WWE Tag Team Titles as they take on The New Day in a best two out of three falls match. The New Day have really gotten over as a heel team, so it’s likely that WWE will have them hold on to the Tag Titles this Sunday.

Another tag-team match that has been added to the show, which will likely be the pre-show match, is Damien Sandow and Curtis Axel vs. The Ascension. Sandow’s newest character is “Macho Mandow.” Axel has been imitating Hulk Hogan since January, so WWE is teaming them up as a Mega-Powers parody team.

It’s possible that WWE will add one or two more matches to this Sunday’s lineup, but as of right now, four of the five announced matches are rematches for the previous pay-per-view, and with the exception of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match, they’ll all likely be blow-off matches.

The full announced match card is listed below.

  • WWE World Heavyweight Championship Fatal-Four-Way — Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton
  • United States Championship “I Quit” Match — John Cena vs. Rusev
  • WWE Tag Team Championship, Best Of Three Falls — The New Day vs. Tyson Kidd and Cesaro
  • Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus
  • Bad News Barrett vs. Neville
  • Macho Mandow and Curtis Axel vs. The Ascension
