American Idol: Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, And Harry Connick Jr. Will Return For Final Season

The American Idol era is coming to a close. However, there is some good news… Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. will be returning to the judges’ seats for the final season!

Fox officially announced on Monday, May 11, that the signing competition, which Entertainment Weekly is calling the “biggest TV entertainment series of the 21st century,” will be ending after its 15th season that will start airing in January 2016.

Since the show’s peak in 2006, drawing in 36 million viewers for the season finale, the ratings have continuously dropped. Although there have been many superstars to come from the Idol stage, including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Pickler, Jordin Sparks, and Chris Daughtry, the show has become somewhat boring to viewers, and no recent success stories have been made.

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest confirmed the cancellation on Twitter.

“Yes next year will be our final season of @AmericanIdol. This show’s been a big part of my life for so long… hard to imagine it w/out it,” he tweeted.

Ryan then tweeted a photo of him and the first ever American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, revealing just how far the show has come.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, season 15 will reportedly “pay tribute” to the previous 14 seasons, with guest appearances and other surprises.

One thing is for sure, it is almost guaranteed to be an emotional season.

“Next season will be emotional yes, but next season will be unforgettable,” Seacrest tweeted. “I can’t wait.”
