‘The Voice’: Will Blake Shelton Give Up His Chair To Another Country Superstar?

The Voice has been a huge success and boosted the careers of its coaches, putting them on prime time TV and making them household names regardless of what genre of music viewers favor. Blake Shelton is one of only two coaches — along with Adam Levine — who have been with the show every season since its beginning, but is Blake considering taking a break from The Voice like coaches Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Shakira, Gwen Stefani, and Usher have done?

During Shelton’s tenure as a Voice coach, he has helped launch the careers of such rising country stars as Craig Wayne Boyd, RaeLyn, The Swon Brothers, and Cassadee Pope, becoming an ambassador for country music on The Voice. Shelton, half of one of country’s reigning royal couples with superstar Miranda Lambert, has hinted he might be ready to take a break from the hit singing contest, according to Taste of Country. It also seems Blake has been thinking about who would be an appropriate replacement for him on The Voice, and even though other coaches claim they want to work with country music stars, it looks like Shelton wants to keep his red chair in the country family.

So who does Shelton think would make a great replacement for him as coach on The Voice? None other than his American Country Music Awards co-host for this year, Luke Bryan. However, Shelton did express some reservations in an Associated Press interview cited by Taste of Country as to whether Bryan would want the job due to one requirement in particular.

“There also has to be an element of actually being willing to just give up, pretty much, your career to do it. I’m just lazy enough. I may be the only one that was willing to do that.”

While Blake may be exaggerating his so-called laziness, given the country star has not let The Voice keep him from recording and touring every year, Luke Bryan does have some extra responsibilities on his plate in his personal life lately. In addition to his own kids, he has taken his nephew into his household since the death of his sister’s husband.

On top of the added personal demands, Luke still keeps up with his career, garnering Entertainer of the Year awards for both the ACM and CMA country awards this past year, so he’s hardly “lazy” by any means. But would Luke Bryan make a good coach on The Voice? Who do you think might be able to fill Blake Shelton’s cowboy boots on The Voice if he takes a break?
