Shonda Rhimes Has Another ABC Show: ‘The Catch’

According to the Huffington Post, ABC has picked up Shonda Rhimes’ new show, The Catch, for the 2015-2016 season. A pilot for the new show was ordered last January for the upcoming season. ABC has given the green light for the show to air next season.

The Catch is based on the novel by Kate Atkinson. The thriller tells the story of a female fraud investigator who is planning to get married, but she is about to be conned by her fiancé. The bride-to-be isn’t who she says she is either. In a twist of events, nothing turns out as it seems when the couple plunges into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Viewers are left to decide who’s conning who.

“The show is Rhimes’ fourth show on ABC. Rhimes is already responsible for ABC’s entire Thursday night lineup of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder. It is no surprise that all three of these shows are returning.”

The Detriot Free Press reported that The Catch comes from Rhimes and Betsy Beers, and the two will executive produce alongside Julie Anne Robinson and Jennifer Schuur, who will write the pilot. Schuur’s previous works include Hannibal and Hellcats. Rhimes will also work on the project with the women. The drama will star Mireille Enos, who played Sarah Linden in the AMC series The Killing.

Rhimes tweeted about her good news.

Shonda Rhimes is a 45-year-old screenwriter, director, and producer. She is best known for being the creator, head writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the medical drama television series Grey’s Anatomy, its spin-off, Private Practice, and political thriller series Scandal. Rhimes serves as executive producer for ABC’s new legal series How to Get Away with Murder, which debuted September 25, 2014.

In 2014, ABC programmed its entire Thursday prime time lineup with ShondaLand dramas Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder, then branded the night as “Thank God It’s Thursday” (or “TGIT”).

It has not been announced which night The Catch will air. More than likely, it will not be on Thursday night because all the primetime slots are already filled with Shonda Rhimes’ other hit shows.

Shonda Rhimes is a talented writer. She has won a Golden Globe award and was nominated for three Emmy Awards. Rhimes has also won awards from the Writer’s Guild of America, Producer’s Guild of America, and Director’s Guild of America.

Because of Rhimes’ reputation based on her current shows, The Catch is sure to please. Do you have time to add another Shonda Rhimes’ show to your schedule?
