ABC Shows Cancelled: ‘Forever,’ ‘Resurrection,’ ‘The Taste’ Axed, But ‘Scandal’ Season 5 Renewed

Out of the ABC shows cancelled, ironically we will not be seeing a further Resurrection, nor will Forever Season 2 be coming out any time soon. How can you even have Forever cancelled? (Forever is a long time, you know). Don’t forget about the end of savoring The Taste! Fortunately, Olivia Pope fans will be able to put on their white hats again, since Scandal Season 5 was renewed, in addition to favorites like American Crime, Castle, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Galavant, Secrets & Lies, Nashville, and others.

In a related report by the Inquisitr, the Scandal Season 4 finale spoilers may leave you feeling somewhat shocked.

At one point, it was believed we might see Scandal cancelled and even Kerry Washington (who plays as Olivia) is uncertain how Scandal Season 5 could even happen based upon the Season 4 finale.

Scott Foley, who plays Jake in the show, explains how Scandal Season 5 will change things up.

“These last couple episodes are a real great transition for the show toward season five,” Foley explained, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “They are taking characters and roles and positions and conventions that you’re used to on the show and getting rid of them, flipping them upside down, doing things you wouldn’t expect. You’re going to see relationships and people and jobs and everything sort of spun on its head, and I think because of that, they’ve opened this fantastic new window to the show where they can really do more with the characters.”

Unfortunately, we will not be seeing what will happen with some characters who had their ABC shows cancelled. The romance between Forever’s two main characters was just starting to get heated up in time for Forever Season 2, but ABC decided that four million supporters was not enough to keep the show going on forever.

Ioan Gruffudd, who plays as Dr. Henry Morgan in the show, left a note to fans just as news that ABC had Forever cancelled broke.

“Tonight, as you all now know, I received a phone call that I was hoping not to receive, and to be honest I really wasn’t expecting it. I knew the numbers hadn’t been great, but I also knew the studio and the network both loved the show, and of course that it had an incredible fan base…so I thought we were in with a pretty good chance.

“But sadly no, this time the cards weren’t dealt in our favor. Show business is like that. Hell, life is like that. You ride to the top of the wave and then you come crashing down again. I asked Alice to send out the sad news because I was a little bit shaken up and needed time to gather my thoughts.

“So I sat down and started reading the thousands of Tweets in response to the announcement. And the more I read, the more I couldn’t believe it. The love, the sense of solidarity, the hope, the kindness, the support. Not just for the show, but for each other. And slowly I began to focus on what we had gained in the past year, rather than what we had lost in the last five minutes. I was overcome by a sense of gratitude. To have met you all and to have you all rooting for me and the show. At having a chance to play the role of my dreams, even if it was only for a year. To have been given the chance to bring Henry to life.

“Watching the interaction of the FOREVER fans come together and share their love for the show has been breath-taking. It was you guys who held me up when I thought I could no longer go on. (Those days were LONG!) You made me smile when you pointed out the little things I did on screen that I thought had gone unnoticed. You gave me confidence when I accidentally found myself reading less than shining reviews. You were always with me, every step of the way, waving your flags, shouting your support for the show. It’s been an incredible, wonderful year, one that I will never, ever forget.”

Out of the ABC shows cancelled, it is also ironically odd to see that Resurrection won’t be resurrected for a third season. Landon Gimenez, who played Jacob Langston on the show, also left a message for fans on Twitter.

“Not an easy night. Very sad. I love you all. So grateful to all my for such an amazing run with !! You guys are the best. Thank you so much for all the kindness. Thank you @ABCNetwork for taking a chance on me and giving me the best 3 yrs. ever. So grateful for Resurrection and the network.”

Fans, of course, will not like having their favorite ABC shows cancelled. A Forever petition managed to grab tens of thousands of signatures in hopes of keeping Forever Season 2 going on forever. Fortunately, we were allowed to see a snippet of Dr. Morgan’s life, so perhaps it is appropriate to end with a John Milton quote.

“Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.”
