Kurt Russell Cast In ‘Deepwater Horizon’ Joins Mark Wahlberg And Kate Hudson, Plus First Look At ‘The Hateful Eight’

Kurt Russell has been plenty busy lately working on a number of new movie projects. The longtime Hollywood star is set to appear in Deepwater Horizon directed by Pete Berg, and Quentin Tarintino’s The Hateful Eight.

Russell will be starring alongside Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming film Deepwater Horizon. The movie is inspired by real events that occurred on April 20, 2010 surrounding one of the most publicized oil spills in recent years. The film follows the crew on the oil rig Deepwater Horizon, as they race to confront the challenge of one of the largest oil spills in history.

Along with Kurt Russell, it was recently announced by Summit Entertainment and Participant Media through Entertainment Weekly that Kate Hudson would be joining the project. Hudson will be playing Felicia Williams in the movie, according to The Wrap. Williams is the wife of the oil rig engineer on Deepwater, Mike Williams, who is being played by Wahlberg.

The addition of Hudson to the movie makes it the first time that Kurt Russell has played alongside the starlet. The Berg film will also include a number of other notable stars, including Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O’Brien, and John Malkovich. Deepwater Horizon is produced by Stephen Levinson and Wahlberg with Lorenzon di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and David Womark.

Along with his role in Deepwater Horizon, Russell is also set to play in Tarintino’s upcoming western The Hateful Eight. Russell is playing a bounty hunter in the film named John “The Hangman” Ruth. The movie centers on eight different gunfighters who are waylaid by a blizzard and forced to seek refuge in a cabin.

Entertainment Weekly recently issued photos of the new movie online that depict some of the characters in the film. One of the photos shows Russell and co-star Samuel L. Jackson squaring off in an intense scene. Jackson is playing Major Marquis Warren in the movie. The western is also set to feature Michael Madsen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bruce Dern, Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, and Walton Goggins.

Interestingly, Tarintino almost ditched the movie after a copy of the script was released online. Luckily, he changed his mind after the cast had a live reading of the script, which garnered positive feedback. In addition to the photos released online by Entertainment Weekly, the new film is also featured on the cover of the Entertainment Weekly’s May issue.

Watch Kurt Russell in his role in Deepwater Horizon when it hits theaters in September 2016.
