Is It A Conspiracy? eBay Removes Auctions Selling PS4 Containing ‘Silent Hills’ P.T.

With Konami cancelling its much anticipated game, Silent Hills, gamers were left scratching their heads over what to do. While some fans lamented the demise of the game, others saw the chance for a quick buck to made after PlayStation removed the Silent Hills playable trailer (P.T.) from their store on April 29. As reported previously by The Inquisitr, people who had downloaded and played the trailer were able to sell their PS4 consoles on eBay for well over $1,000 each.

It seems, however, according to Kokatu, many people are having their eBay listings removed for these items. eBay is citing the recommendation to reset consoles back to its original settings. This, one would guess, is to prevent identity theft. however, it is a policy that has been loosely monitored up until now.

“Most new video game consoles, that support online gameplay, will save your personal information used for logging into those networks. Before selling your video game console, it is highly recommended to go into the settings area, and reset the console back to factory default settings.”

Reader, Kevin Schumacher, alerted Kokatu to the fact his PS4 console, complete with Silent Hills P.T. had been removed from eBay and the following reasons as to why he could no longer list the item were given:

eBay PS4 PT listing

While eBay have, in the past, been lax about gaming consoles and personal content remaining on them, it seems this is not the first time a company has requested the removal from sale of items that have games installed on them. Last year, Apple iPhones that contained the game, Flappy Bird, were also removed from sale on eBay after phones containing this game were reportedly being auctioned off for as much $100,000.

According to comments made on the original Kokatu article about eBay removing the PS4 consoles, it appears some consider Konami the one to blame and not eBay’s policy. One commenter, Neo Kaiser, says Konami want Silent Hills to disappear completely.

“I don’t know, considering how Konami are going lately I’d wager they contacted eBay to remove those listings specifically so that they can kill PT permanently.”

Another person, who goes by the user name Coco suggests it could just be some sort of new game hype and not eBay’s policy at all.

“Would be a sweet plot twist if all of this is just a clever ploy to generate more hype for the game. Wishful thinking…”

Since Kokatu published the fact eBay were removing PS4 consoles, new items have started to creep up again on eBay, but only time will tell how long these items will last.
