WWE News: Update On Why WWE Added Dean Ambrose To The WWE World Title Match At ‘WWE Payback’

WWE Superstar Dean Ambrose was recently added to the WWE World Heavyweight Title match at WWE Payback. This surprised a lot of people, as it seemed crazy that WWE would just randomly add him. In the end though, there are several reasons as to why Ambrose was added. One of them obvious, the others not so much.

As many know by now, WWE had a triple threat match for the WWE World Title at the Royal Rumble PPV. A triple threat match happened again at WrestleMania 31, albeit only because of Seth Rollins cashing in. While it didn’t last long, the Mania triple threat did count. WWE is also planning a triple threat for the WWE World Title yet again at WWE SummerSlam later this year.

That being said, WWE felt that it would be smart to have a Fatal Four Way match over the triple threat that we have seen or will have seen too often.

Ambrose made the most sense to be added over others, especially since he had no story to speak of.

As the Inquisitr reported earlier this week before WWE RAW even began, it appears that Ambrose might be in line for a push soon. This is not because of Ambrose complaining, but rather because people in the back are sticking up for him and telling WWE that it would be dumb to not use Ambrose in a major way. The fans love Dean, and no matter what he does, that won’t stop.

Due to this, WWE had to consider the idea of seeing what Ambrose could do. This is a major reason why WWE added Ambrose. It could be a major test for the Lunatic Fringe. If he passes, we could see something huge happen with him.

There is a rumor that WWE could have Ambrose turn heel at WWE Payback, mainly due to the huge amount of faces and little heels. This very well could occur, but WWE may give this honor to Reigns due to how he needs the edge at this point over an Ambrose character.

Dean Lockdown

Another huge reason for a Dean Ambrose push this summer is due to his WWE film set to come out later this year.

Remember when Ambrose was written out late last year when Rollins curb stomped Ambrose’s head through cement blocks? This was done so that Ambrose could shoot a WWE film called Lockdown.

The movie should be coming out before the end of the year, most likely this fall. The movie is centered around an officer named John Shaw, played by Ambrose. Shaw returns to duty after recovering from a gunshot wound, only to find himself trapped inside his own precinct and hunted after crooked cops stop at nothing to recover incriminating evidence of illegal activities against those closest to him.

It is an action film, obviously, and Dean Ambrose is playing the lead role. That said, WWE will need to promote the film and thus push Ambrose along with it. WWE doesn’t want to make the push obvious, so it is smart to slowly start this now. The first PPV win for Ambrose in almost a year happened at Extreme Rules last month, and now he is added to the WWE World Heavyweight Title picture. It is certainly no coincidence that this is happening before the release of a WWE film that the company will want to promote.

This is also not the last we will see of the Ambrose push. It is doubtful he will win at WWE Payback, but he very well could be used in a major way going forward. One rumor going around is that he is favored to win Money in the Bank next month.

The movie is set to be released straight to DVD as of now, however, WWE does want to see how good Dean Ambrose can be through it. If the film is successful, we will certainly see more of Ambrose in films, and that could transition to his WWE role as well.
