‘Destiny’ 1.2 Update Goes Live Next Week In Preparation For ‘House Of Wolves’

Destiny players may have noticed that that the game went down for a few hours on PlayStation and Xbox consoles on Wednesday. This was to deliver the 1.2.0 update to the all players, but it was not actually activated. Don’t fear. Bungie revealed the schedule of when the update and “House of Wolves” will go live on Thursday, so that Guardians can plan accordingly.

The 1.2.0 update was pushed to consoles in preparation for Destiny‘s second expansion. The changes it brought are not live yet, though. According to the Bungie Community Manager David “Deej” Dague, it will be activated on Tuesday, May 12, sometime after 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT.

This update does not make “House of Wolves” go live, however. It brings some of the changes being made to the game world of Destiny, but the expansion itself will not go live until Tuesday, May 19, when the 1.2.0.1 patch is released sometime after 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT. Expect this patch to be extremely small, as it does little more than turn the expansion on. You may ask why Bungie is releasing these updates so far ahead of the official release of “House of Wolves,” but there are a couple of valid reasons. First, it prevents a rush of players trying to download the update from Destiny‘s servers at the same time, while also trying to play the game. Second, it gives Bungie time to react to any unexpected bugs or glitches that are introduced.

While there are no official patch notes yet, there are a few things that Bungie itself has confirmed for the update beyond the release of “House of Wolves.”

  • The Black Hammer Sniper Rifle is being fixed to bring the Hive Disruptor perk back.
  • Crucible maps from The Dark Below expansion are being added to the normal Crucible rotation for everyone, including those that did not purchase the expansion.
  • Players will no longer be able to use a glitch to purchase Iron Banner items based on their last Iron Banner rank.
  • The chance to obtain Legendary and Exotic weapon and armor drops in Crucible is being increased.

The “House of Wolves” expansion will add the new Queen’s Bay social area, a simpler upgrade path for weapons armor, the Trials of Osiris competitive multiplayer mode, and the new Prison of Elders Arena mode, in addition to new story missions and quests. It costs $20 by itself, or $35 as part of the Season Pass.
