Iran: West Must Accept Our Nuclear Program’s Success

A senior Iranian lawmaker to the official Islamic Republic News Agency on Sunday that the international community must accept Iran’s civilian nuclear program or incur “heavy losses”.

The P5+1 nations who are negotiating with Tehran about their nuclear program have agreed to restart negotiations.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the head of Iran’s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said that the P5+1 must acknowledge Iran’s achievements in its civilian nuclear program, including advances in nuclear energy production and medical technology.

Boroujerdi also said they will not make any form of concessions what so ever. He advised the P5+1 to avoid confrontation with Iran and said the United nations Security Council should immediately life sanctions. The sanctions placed on Iran by the UN target Iranian assets, and ban most nuclear and military technology from entering the country.

United States President Barack Obama has warned that Iran must:

“seize this opportunity of negotiations with the P5+1 to avert even worse consequences for Iran in the future.”

Western nations have accelerated the means by which Iran is being sanctioned to gain maximum leverage against the country. European Union regulators have ordered SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) to deny Iranian banks access to its system. Without access to the system Iran’s import/export market is essentially crippled.

The United States, The European Union and Israel say that Iran is using its nuclear program to develop atomic weapons. They also charge that Iran is developing the missile technology to deliver a bomb into Europe or Israel. Israel has made it clear that they believe this to be an existential threat and have threatened to use military force against Iran if sanctions fail to deter them. The United States has also said that all options are on the table to stop Iran’s march to nuclear weapons.

Do you think the United States or Israel is going to attack Iran?
