Matt Flynn Signs Three Year, $26 Million Deal With Seattle Seahawks

Matt Flynn is no longer QB2 for the Green Bay Packers, that after Flynn met with and signed a three year contract with the Seattle Seahawks, a contract worth $26 million with $10 million guaranteed.

Over the last week Flynn had met with the Miami Dolphins and the Seattle Seahawks in the hopes of finding a new home as a starting quarterback.

In what might be the biggest surprise, Flynn chose the Seahawks over former Green Bay offensive coordinator Joe Philbin who is now the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

The move could be a smart decision for the Seahawks as Flynn has been a career backup behind Aaron Rodgers in the same way Matt Hsselbeck backed up Brett Favre before he headed to the Seattle Seahawks in 2001.

Flynn however isn’t an untested product, during the teams 2011 season finale Flynn threw for 480 yards and six touchdowns to lead his team to victory over the Detroit Lions.

While terms of the deal have not yet been fully stated owner Paul Allen did take to Twitter to congratulate general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll for locking up the QB.

Also welcoming Matt Flynn to the team was Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin who tweeted:

“Just got off the phone with Matt Flynn. And he’s ready to WIN!!.”

In a welcoming gesture of sorts Baldwin has also agreed to give up his No. 15 jersey to Flynn. Matt wore No. 15 while playing for LSU. Baldwin will now wear the No. 89 jersey.

During his sporadic game time Flynn has completed 62 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.

Do you think Matt Flynn can do for the Seattle Seahawks what Matt Hasselbeck did over his 131 regular season career games?
