‘Teen Mom OG’ Ratings: Large Numbers Tune In For Farrah Abraham’s Return
Teen Mom OG returned earlier this year, initially bringing back only Maci Bookout, Amber Portwood, and Catelynn Lowell. For the first episode, nearly 2 million viewers turned in to see the girls, but the ratings dropped substantially in coming weeks. However, with the return of Farrah Abraham, the show saw a significant increase in ratings.
When it was announced that the reality show star turned adult film star would return to MTV, there was outcry from both fans and Farrah’s co-stars. Maci Bookout threatened to quit the show (though as the Inquisitr pointed out, she decided to stay and opted rather to pull her son, Bentley, from any further filming). Not only that, but a petition was started in order to get MTV to pull Farrah from the show. The petition for the removal of Farrah cited Maci’s concern.
“Maci has refused to allow her son to be on a show with the likes of Farrah and says she will not return for another season if Farrah stays. Why would MTV trade a positive role model, like Maci, for a bratty, disrespectful, hateful, nasty porn star, whack job? MTV should be ashamed for promoting Farrah, her lifestyle, sex toy line, & porn on a show with children…a show that is meant for teen girls!”
The petition is hoping to reach 1 million supporters, but so far, the petition (which was started nearly two months ago) has only gained the support of 8,500 people. This, along with Starcasm’sreport that Teen Mom OG’s ratings soared with Farrah Abraham’s return, leave some to wonder if people really don’t want to see Farrah on the show or if they are simply saying they don’t and tuning in to watch.
The fifth episode of the season showed Farrah’s return, albeit short. Nevertheless, ratings jumped for this episode and even more so for the sixth episode which showed an entire segment with the controversial star. With nearly 400,000 more viewers to Teen Mom OG after Farrah Abraham’s return, it seems that more people are interested in seeing her on the show than not.
Although there are some fans who are disappointed by Farrah’s return, the ratings tell a different story. Teen Mom OG is chronicling different parts of the girls’ lives this season showing Maci Bookout’s pregnancy and co-parenting struggles; Catelynn Lowell’s pregnancy and struggles with Carly’s adoptive parents; Amber Portwood’s life post prison and new relationship; and Farrah Abraham’s new relationship and tumultuous relationship with her parents.
MTV has not yet revealed if there will be a second season of Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2’s sixth season is set to premiere this summer.
