10 Irish blessings For St. Patrick’s Day

Everybody’s Irish today. By some estimates the world population of Irish people will more than double. If you find yourself in a sea of green this St. Patrick’s Day and you happen to be holding a pint of Guinness, what will you say?

Here are a few Irish blessings, sayings, and proverbs for St. Patrick’s Day 2012 that are perfect for the pub or dinner table.

“May your glass be ever full / May the roof over your head be always strong / And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you’re dead.”

“May the Good Lord take a liking to you… but not too soon.”

“Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue, but never forget to remember those that have stuck by you.”

“I complained that I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet.”

“There are only two kinds of people in the world, The Irish and those who wish they were.”

“Here’s to you and yours, And to mine and ours, And if mine and ours ever come across you and yours, I hope you and yours will do as much for mine and ours and mine and ours have done for you and yours!”

“It is often that a person’s mouth broke his nose.”

“If you’re lucky enough to be Irish, then you’re lucky enough.”

“A son is a son till he takes him a wife. A daughter is a daughter all of her life.”

And if you can’t remember one of those sayings when the time comes, you can always raise your glass and say “Sláinte” (To Good Health / Cheers).
