‘Destiny’ Prison Of Elders Teased By Bungie Ahead Of Full Reveal

The final reveal for the Destiny: House of Wolves expansion was teased by Bungie on Tuesday with a glimpse into the new Arena mode, Prison of Elders. It appears that PlayStation and Xbox players can look forward to a new spin on Horde mode.

Bungie Senior Designer Matt Sammons will be joined by Community Manager David “Deej” Dague and community guest Professor Broman in a Twitch livestream on Wednesday, May 6 at 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT. There, they will make the full reveal of what’s been one of the more controversial decisions with the House of Wolves expansion, replacing the six-man Raid with the new three-man Prison of Elders.

The Prison of Elders teaser video above gives a peek into the new Arena mode with a tagline of “Prepare for combat. Fight. Kill. Survive.”

From what can be gathered based on previous announcements and this new video, Prison of Elders will take players through a randomized dungeons filled with Fallen, Hive, and Cabal (no Vex were shown). Waves of enemies will appear until a boss is reached for a final encounter.

At a high level, this sounds similar to the Nephalem Rift in Diablo III that was added with the Reaper of Souls expansion. We’ll have to wait for the exact details from Bungie to weed out the similarities and dissimilarities though.

House of Wolves will be released on May 19 for Destiny players that have purchased the $35 Season Pass or those that buy the expansion by itself for $19.99. Bungie confirmed a new social area along with an easier way to upgrade gear to the new 34 level cap.

Commendations are going away along with the current painful upgrade path for armor and weapons. It is being replaced with a simpler upgrade path that uses Etheric Light to bump all Legendary and Exotic armor up to the new power levels.

The Trials of Osiris competitive multiplayer mode was revealed last week as a weekly three versus three Crucible event where power levels matter and rewards are determined by wins. Each match consists of quick two minute elimination rounds until one side reaches five wins. Once a player goes down, they can only be revived by teammates. Additionally, this is a “bring a friend” event like Nightfall and Raids. There is no matchmaking beyond putting pre-made teams against one another.
