Bill Cosby Actually Going To Face Prosecution?

It may not be news that Bill Cosby has been accused by a plethora of women of drugging and sexually assaulting them. But what is new is that although up to this point prosecutors were unable to bring a case against Cosby due to the statute of limitations, there is one state that doesn’t have that statute and may just be the one to bring Cosby to court.

Both Lili Bernard and a writer who had once interviewed the comedian, came forward with their attorney, Gloria Allred, on May 1 to announce more accusations of sexual assault against Cosby. And what’s more is that because Bernard’s reported assault took place in New Jersey, a state that doesn’t follow the statute of limitations, she is set to press charges.

According to Chron, Gloria Allred explained during the press conference, “Unlike most other states, New Jersey has no statue of limitations for rape, which means that law enforcement is not prevented from prosecuting a case because of an arbitrary time period set by law.”

Bernard had appeared on The Cosby Show and had contact with Cosby up until 1992.

As seen on the New York Daily News, Bernard stated, “After he had won my complete trust and adoration, he drugged and raped me.”

Bernard claimed that Cosby “repeatedly attacked” her and that the whole of it left her “highly suicidal,” adding that what Cosby did is still affecting her today.

“I still suffer panic attacks and night terrors as a result of what Mr. Cosby did to me.”

Writer Sammie Mays shared a very similar story during the press conference, claiming that Cosby drugged her and then sexually assaulted her in the 1980’s when she asked to interview him.

So, why exactly are these women coming forward now and looking to press charges?

Bernard explained that she wants “to show my 6-year-old daughter to stand in truth, and to say that I’ve survived Bill Cosby’s drugging and raping me…I stand here to take back my power and to confront the fear that has paralyzed me for so many years.”

Mays added, “I never wanted to see Bill Cosby again, or ever talk about him. That is until all these many years later I learned Bill Cosby preyed upon other women in somewhat the same manner,”

“Women need to break out of their fear and report so that predators can be held accountable,” explained Allred.

And it appears that Bill Cosby may just finally be held accountable in the Garden State.
