Indiana Jones Movie Confirmed By Lucasfilm: Will Harrison Ford Return?

A new Indiana Jones movie has been confirmed by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy in an interview with Vanity Fair.

There has been much talk about a sequel to the popular films starring the legendary Harrison Ford. The actor is obviously too old to play his role and considering he’s had two major surgeries in less than a year, he is not expected to reprise the role, at least not as the main character.

But before you get too excited to see a new Indiana Jones movie sometime soon, Kennedy said the film is being discussed and no script is even developed at this time.

“(An Indiana Jones movie) will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.”

The Indiana Jones series, made famous by Ford who delighted fans doing his own stunts and bringing to life a Han Solo-like character, this time on planet Earth, has been long discussed as potentially being brought back to life. In 2014, a report on Screen Rant suggested that after Disney purchased the rights from George Lucas, a new Indiana Jones movie was a true possibility.

In that article, Disney chairman Alan Horn was also quoted talking about bringing the franchise back to life, confirming Kennedy’s assertion that there is nothing concrete about the project.

“We haven’t done anything…We don’t have a story. We need a story.”

The Indiana Jones movies follow the adventures of archaeologist, historian, and college professor Dr. Henry Walton Jones Jr., who travels the world part time. While on his trips he completely transforms his personal appearance and wears the classic fedora hat, bullwhip, satchel, and leather jacket.

Indiana Jones is extremely knowledgeable in ancient civilizations and languages and has a sarcastic sense of humor. He also hates snakes, which he comes across visiting exotic locations while searching for valuable ancient relics.

It is unclear whether Harrison Ford will return to reprise one of his most famous characters in an old age, but there were reports he was in talks for an Indiana Jones 5 and 6. The most frequently mentioned name to fill Ford’s shoes is that of Chris Pratt, but that is just wishful thinking at this point.
