Miley Cyrus Talks About Her Sexuality, Being Herself, And Her New Charity

Miley Cyrus says that she’s “just being Miley” these days. The 22-year-old singer stopped by Good Morning America to announce the news about her Happy Hippie Foundation. She also discussed her new charity with the Associated Press, according to a recent report on The Washington Post.

Cyrus said that she wanted to create a homeless shelter that helps teens from all walks of life, especially the LGBT youth, which is near and dear to her heart. During the interview, the former Disney star hinted that not all of her past relationships were “straight, heterosexual” ones. Cyrus may have come out as bisexual, but she didn’t further elaborate about her sexual preference. She was obviously not there to talk about herself; Cyrus simply was there to create awareness to her new charity.

The “Wrecking Ball” singer often posts sexually suggestive and weird photos on Instagram. But in a telephone interview with the Associated Press, Miley said that she wants to use her fame for good. She knows that her famous name can bring even more exposure to homelessness even though it’s easily forgotten about.

“The position I’m in, I feel like I’ve got a lot of power. But so many kids don’t feel that way. They’re under their parents’ rule.”

Cyrus revealed that she was inspired by the time she attended the 2014 Video Music Awards with a homeless teen named Jesse. It was also then she accepted her Video of the Year award. She also wanted to help LGBT youth ever since she heard of the news of transgender teen Leelah Alcorn. Cyrus said that 40 percent of teens identify themselves as LGBT.

She didn’t stop there. Miley also referred to Bruce Jenner as her “hero” for helping create awareness on gender identity and transgender issues. She said there’s a reason to her madness when she’s stripping down or twerking for the cameras. Miley has more important things to talk about than her nipples.

“When you have all eyes on you, what are you saying? And that’s what I had to ask myself a lot. It’s like, I know you’re going to look at me more if my (breasts) are out, so look at me. And then I’m going to tell you about my foundation for an hour and totally hustle you.”

Cyrus partnered with Facebook to feature her Backyard Sessions, in which she will collaborate with another artist for a chance to perform in Cyrus’ own backyard, according to Rollingstone Magazine. Some of the artists include Ariana Grande, Joan Jett, Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, and many more to come. Each video will be featured on Facebook with an option to donate directly to Cyrus’ Happy Hippie Foundation. The Backyard Sessions will be made available on the Facebook page starting Tuesday, May 5.

Miley believes that fans should stop focusing on her nipple pasties and pink armpit hair, and focus on more important issues. She has no intentions to hide her true self and believes no one else should either.

“Pointless judgment and its effects are unfortunately something that is way too common. All humans have valid feelings and rights! I want to use my voice as a megaphone to young people everywhere and encourage human evolution.”

“No one should have to hide who they really are, no matter what his or her name, gender or status. That’s why Happy Hippies are here to say that every life is valuable!”

Funds that are raised by the Happy Hippie Foundation will also create virtual support groups for both LGBT youth and their families. The foundation is also partnering up with My Friend’s Place, a homeless shelter for teens in Hollywood. Visit Miley Cyrus’ Happy Hippie Foundation website to learn more or to make a donation.
