Invisible Children Co-Founder, Jason Russell, Reportedly Arrested For Public Masturbation

Last week, Jason Russell and his organization, Invisible Children, were in the national spotlight for all the right reasons. The group created the “Kony 2012” video which put the spotlight on African warlord Joseph Kony. This week, however, the Invisible Children are in the news for a slightly less charitable reason. Russell was reportedly arrested in San Diego for public intoxication and masturbation.

NBC San Diego reports that Russell was detained after police received a report of a man vandalizing cars, drinking, and masturbating in public. Lt. Andra Brown said that Russell was “acting very strange” but did not give any further details.

The Invisible Children website describes Russell as the organization’s “grand storyteller and dreamer.” The site also says that Russell is a good Christian man who has two children with his wife.

The Invisible Children released a statement about Russell’s arrest today, but focused more on Russell’s health as opposed to the actual incident. The organization writes:

“Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday. Jason’s passion and his work have done so much to help so many, and we are devastated to see him dealing with this personal health issue. We will always love and support Jason, and we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time.”

Do you think the story of Jason Russell’s arrest will go viral?
