Sofia Vergara Opens Up About Spat Over Frozen Embryos: Ex’s Desire To Father Her Kid Is ‘Selfish’

After a spat over some frozen embryos brought Sofia Vergara’s private life into the spotlight, the actress has finally put in her two cents about an ex’s desire to be the father of her children.

Speaking with Howard Stern on Friday, Vergara said ex Nick Loeb is bound by a contract he signed that prohibits him — or Sofia — from doing anything with the embryos they froze when they were together, E! Online reported.

In March last year, he filed a complaint to prevent Vergara from destroying the embryos, which the 42-year-old actress insisted she’s never intended to do — nor could. Vergara is also bound by the contract, which states “no unilateral action can be taken with regard to the embryos unless both parties consent.”

Loeb has stressed that he wants to “protect” the embryos — not necessarily that Vergara wants to get rid of them — and also wants to be a father, ABC News added.

Too bad, says Sofia Vergara.

“I totally understand him. Fortunately or unfortunately, there is law. You signed legal papers. If it was serious for him, this issue — which I totally respect is for someone — he should have taken it more seriously. There is a contract. He can’t do anything.”

Contract terms were thoroughly discussed and her ex signed them — twice. Vergara isn’t worried that a judge will take Loeb’s side.

But more important than debate over the letter of the law is one simple fact, which Vergara — who already has a child — made sure to stress during her interview with Stern: bringing a child into the world under these circumstances would be wrong, even though Sofia’s ex said he would “take full parenting responsibilities.”

“I couldn’t imagine anyone saying that it’s sane to bring into the world kids that already [have] everything set up wrong for them. It would be so selfish. More than a mother, [a baby] needs a loving relationship of parents that get along, that don’t hate each other.”

The current relationship between Vergara and her ex isn’t one of hate, the actress clarified, “but obviously he has a problem with me.”

Other than those few words of explanation, Vergara had little more to say on the matter — any spat between Sofia and Loeb apparently doesn’t feature very highly on her list of priorities and she doesn’t seem at all concerned with the direction the matter will take.

“I’m not going through anything. He’s [Loeb’s] going through something,” Sofia Vergara said. “I’m doing the right thing. I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Besides, Vergara and hunky fiancé Joe Manganiello are having such a good time that the pair haven’t even discussed it.

“We’ve moving into a new house, he’s promoting Magic Mike I’m promoting this movie, we’re planning our wedding, so we try not to think about this.”

Vergara revealed Friday to Ellen DeGeneres that it took some convincing to get her to date Manganiello — he was so “handsome and younger than me and like so sexy and whatever, best bachelor” that Vergara thought he’d be far too much work, Time added.

“He flew to New Orleans and forced me on a date … I’m like, ‘He’s a great guy, super fun, super normal and … we click.’ It’s super easy to hang out with him,” Vergara said.
