Resignation Letter Submitted On A Cake

“This resignation letter, quite literally, takes the cake,” the Huffington Post reports today. The newscast director Mark Herman at KOLD-TV in Tucson, Ari. submitted his resignation letter in the form of the cake shown above. He said, “I handed in the most delicious letter of resignation ever.”

Herman said he decided to serve his resignation letter on a cake to “soften the blow” of his resignation from his position as newscast director.

“I knew they’d be disappointed in my departure,” the Huffington Post quote Herman as saying, “So I decided that I should resign via cake — not only because nobody can be mad or sad at a cake, but also because I’m a bit of a joker and a cake of resignation is pretty damn hilarious.”

Herman’s boss found the cake quite humorous. It proved to be a unique way to submit his resignation to the management of KOLD-TV. No doubt they found it to be the sweetest resignation letter ever submitted.

“She laughed and said, ‘No way! You crack me up!’ … She took it over to the 2 o’clock news meeting and made the announcement to everyone. We all had a good laugh, and it was a great way to start a Friday,” The Huffington Post reported Herman telling Romenesko. “The cake definitely made the bad news a little bit more palatable.”

“One man’s letter of resignation pulled double duty – not only did it announce his departure, it also served as a sugary treat for his coworkers,” WCVB ABC News from Boston reported, “Mark Herman, now the former newscast director at KOLD-TV, told Jim Romanesko that he had his letter printed on the cake’s frosting as a way of easing the impact of his resignation.”

Mark Herman was not the only – nor the first – person to submit his resignation letter on a cake. In 2013, Chris Holmes, a British man, submitted his resignation on a cake also, the Inquisitr reported in 2013.

“Chris Holmes told his bosses at Stansted Airport that he had recently become a father and wanted to devote his time to his family and his own business, the Inquisitr reported, “… I now realize how precious life is and how important it is to spend my time doing something that makes me, and other people, happy,” Holmes wrote in pristine black piped lettering on the spiced carrot cake with sultanas, pecans, and coconut. “For that reason I hereby give notice of my resignation, in order that I may devote my time and energy to my family, and to my cake business which has grown steadily over the past few years.”
