Royal Baby Name Announcement: William And Kate Release Daughter’s Name

The royal baby name announcement is finally here as Prince William and Kate Middleton choose to release the new Princes’ name publicly.

So what has mom and dad chosen to name their child? Here it is, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Her official title will be Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge. Keeping with tradition, William and Kate chose to go the traditional route, much like they did with Prince George, their firstborn.

The royal baby name announcement is quite symbolic and honors two both sides of the family. Charlotte is the female version of grandfather Prince Charles’ name and is also the name of Princess Diana’s brother’s daughter. Elizabeth is of course in honor of great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth and her mother, the Queen Mum.

Diana was chosen to honor Prince William’s late mother, Princess Diana who died in a tragic accident in Paris in 1997 and didn’t have a chance to meet her grandchildren. There was much speculation as to whether William and Kate would choose to name the Princess Diana, so in a way that has come to pass.

The royal baby name announcement is all the rave on social media and Charlotte Elizabeth Diana is now the top trend in the U.K. on Twitter. Aside from the parents, the first person to be informed of the royal baby’s name was Queen Elizabeth, who presumably had to approve of the name chosen.

William and Kate have done things their own way from the beginning and have made it clear that they will follow the strict rules as much as possible, but are also their own people. The couple broke decades of tradition and announced the birth of the royal baby on Twitter.

Duchess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born on Saturday, May 2 after much anticipation from her royal subjects. Kate Middleton’s due date was reportedly April 25, so the Duchess was a few days over due when she finally went into labor in the early morning hours.

Only 12-hours later, William and Kate were seen leaving the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital where the royal baby was born. Kate, as always, looked radiant and a much more experienced William waved to the crowd while carrying her daughter in her car seat.

After the royal baby announcement, the family is set to depart to their home in Anmer Hall to enjoy some quiet time together. Prince William in on paternity leave to be by his family’s side.
