Senator Sylvia Allen Suggests Debate: Mandatory Church Attendance On Sundays [Video]

While discussing gun control in Arizona, conservative Senator Sylvia Allen suggested what she felt was a more critical discussion that the legislature could be debating: Mandating that all Americans be required to attend church every Sunday. Senator Allen says that the real problem behind gun violence is the corrupted souls of Americans today.

“It is the soul that is corrupt and how we get back to a moral rebirth in this country, I don’t know,” Senator Allen told Arizona’s appropriations committee. Allen did specify that Americans could choose the church of their choice, but did clarify that she believes making church attendance a requirement could help with the corruption of souls.

“We are slowly eroding religion at every opportunity that we have. We should probably be debating a bill requiring every American to attend a church of their choice on Sunday to see if we can get back to having a moral rebirth.”

Allen acknowledged that mandating church attendance would never be allowed due to the Constitution, and she settled on voting in favor of expanding Arizona gun owners’ Second Amendment rights, since the debate over required church attendance would not come to pass, according to KPHO in Arizona.

“But since that would not be allowed and we would not even be debating that, I’m going to vote yes that people who are responsible who have a CCW permit don’t have to worry about their guns as they’re out and about and doing business in whatever building they’re in except ones that where they aren’t allowed.”

Senator Steve Farley heard Allen’s comments about compulsory church attendance while at the appropriations committee meeting and posted about them on social media.

“Even if you believe that would stem the moral decay, I think the Constitution makes it very clear that our country is founded on the pillar of separation of church and state,” Farley stated.

Allen said that due to the “moral erosion of the soul of America,” more people will feel the need to carry a weapon for self protection and voted to expand concealed weapons permit holders’ rights. People quickly began sharing a shortened clip of Allen’s statements and social media had a field day.

Allen refused to apologize for the church comment, according to the Christian Post, saying that it was just a flippant comment. After watching the full video clip, do you feel that Senator Sylvia Allen would actually like to see mandatory church attendance, or do you think she was simply making a point about her perception of American’s morals?
