‘Project X’ Inspired Party Leaves One Teen Dead

The new movie “Project X,” about an anything-goes high school party, has brought in more than $40 million for Warner Brothers. According to the police department in Houston, the movie has also been responsible for over $100,000 in property damage and the death of a teenager.

Good Morning America reports that an unidentified male teenager was killed at a “Project X” copycat party over the weekend. Close to 1000 people attended the spring break rave at a mansion in Houston that was modeled after the raucous party in the movie. Police responded to gun fire late in the night and found one teenager dead.

Willie Armstrong, who attended the party, said:

“[The gunman] was just walking, and he pulled out a gun and started shooting, like for no reason. He shot the boy in the back of the head and fell on the ground. He started shooting at the crowds, but then he ran through the field.”

Daniel Menjivara, a 22-year-old college student, said that the party was filled with underage kids. Menjivara said that there were trash cans filled with spiked punch, bikini clad women who were granted entry for free, and the floors were filled with foam. The house was so packed that people eventually spilled out onto the street. Menjivar said:

“Kids took to the streets, but the parking lot was overpacked so you couldn’t get out… It was just people in the actual street. They got into arguments and started shooting each other.”

The Houston police department perused the gunman but were unable to catch them. The department said that several people discharged weapons at the party and they were unsure who was responsible for the killing.
