World’s Ugliest Dog Dies: Yoda The Chihuahua Passes Away At 15 [Video]

Yoda, the Chinese crested-Chihuahua mix that won the World’s Ugliest Dog competition in 2011, has passed away. Yoda was 15-years-old.

The Associated Press reports that the dog led a rough life until it was discovered by Terry Schumacher in the alley behind her house in California.

Schumacher initially mistook the chihuahua for a rat, but eventually realized it was just a really ugly dog.

Yoda was so ugly that she was crowned World’s Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma Marin Fair in 2011.

After being crowned the ugliest dog in the world, and winning Schumacher a $1000 prize, Yoda was invited onto several national TV shows.

Schumacher said:

“(I’m) comforted knowing she will be joining my Mom and Dad, who loved her so much. Her memories will live on forever.”

Vicki DeArmon, who produces the ugliest dog contest, said that Yoda will maintain the title until a new dog is crowned this year. Yoda was the 23rd dog to win the award, which was set up to raise awareness about abused animals and to encourage people to adopt pets that need a home.
