‘Avengers 2’: What You Need To Know About Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver

Aaron Taylor-Johnson revealed the details about becoming the super fast Quicksilver in the Avengers 2 movie. He explained how he had to make his classic character modern and fresh for the much talked about film. Taylor-Johnson revealed that his character’s superhuman speed was the quickest way to make his character boring.

Taylor-Johnson told Entertainment Weekly that he wasn’t a huge Marvel comics or Avengers: Age of Ultron fan. He came into the film without knowing about the character’s background.

“I’m not a huge comic book fanboy. I mean, I read these things generally because a lot of [pop culture] is coming from graphic novels and stuff like this. When I sat down with Joss, he was just like ‘There are these two characters I wanna introduce, and one of them I was thinking is Quicksilver.’ ‘Okay. You have to excuse my ignorance. Explain a bit about him. What does he look like? What does he do? What’s his thing?’ Joss says, ‘He’s got white hair and he’s Eastern European. He’s an orphan.'”

Not only did Taylor-Johnson want to make Quicksilver’s superpowers more interesting, but he also wanted to give the character a heart. He explained what else the character will bring to Avengers 2, besides speed.

“He’s quick tempered. He gets agitated. He’s impatient. But he’s super protective. He had to become a father figure to his twin sister. And they’re very yin-yang in that twin sense. In his power, he’s physical and she’s psychological. You see this beautiful tenderness between them.”

The actor knew he had to make his character interesting when he runs, so he decided to be chaotic and crazy. Taylor-Johnson said that there are no visual effects added to Quicksilver’s running in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which he admit looked kind of boring.

“No! When we played it back, it looked really dull! And then we did one test where Joss said, ‘Just f—ing go mad!’ Flail my arms and that kind of movement, the better it is for their special effects because then you see this body, but it kind of flows. You’ll see a swoop of arm and a leg or a foot or something come up. It looks aggressive.”

This isn’t the first time the Quicksilver has graced the big screen. X-Men: Days of Future Past also featured Quicksilver, who was played by American Horror Story star Evan Peters, according to Heavy.com. Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige spoke out about how important Quicksilver’s character is for both movies.

“There are only a handful of characters that occupy that middle ground. Iron Man is not going to show up over there and Magneto is not going to show up over here. But there are a few gray points even after many years of negotiations … and that only happens with a character like Quicksilver, who has been a part of the X-Men, the son of Magneto in those comics, but also a primary Avenger.”

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been married to director Sam Taylor-Wood (known as Sam Taylor-Johnson) since June of 2012. The couple have two daughters named Romy Hero and Wylda Rae. The Daily Mail reported that Sam Taylor-Johnson was by her husband’s side at the latest screening of Avengers 2 in New York City on Tuesday night.

The Inquisitr previously reported that Avengers 2 is already getting good reviews. It’s expected to pull in millions at the box office this weekend. Some fans are even waiting to buy the home versions of Avengers 2 since it has several additions, including an alternate ending.
