[Update: MTV reposted a clip of Lil Wayne’s DJ Khaled leak after it was taken down from Soundcloud.]
For fans that were excited to hear Lil Wayne news about Tha Carter V, it’s another sorry for the wait, according to Mannie Fresh. Other disappointing news includes a Lil Wayne song leak that has already disappeared — and the promised #FWA (Free Weezy Album) April deadline has obviously passed.
Originally posted by Miss Info on April 29, within 24 hours there was not a trace online of the originally posted Lil Wayne album leak with DJ Khaled.
In addition to the song being taken down on Soundcloud, Miss Info also took down the article announcing Lil Wayne’s 30-second leak. Websites like Rap-Up that got a chance to listen to the DJ Khaled and Lil Wayne track stated the following.
“DJ Khaled… has assembled another all-star roster including Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, and Big Sean for his new single ‘How Many Times.’ A 30-snippet has leaked (via Miss Info), which finds Tunechi reprimanding his girl for sending him naked pics. ‘Don’t send me no naked pictures if I can’t get naked with ya.'”
In another part of Lil Wayne’s world, Tha Carter V still exists — and Mannie Fresh is happy to talk about it, but Mannie misses his money. Music Times states about the Lil Wayne album, “The battle over Tha Carter V between Lil Wayne, Birdman and Cash Money Records has gone on for seemingly an eternity… Speaking on the album that fans have been eagerly waiting to hear, Mannie gave some unique insight into the LP’s sound, but did not give any clarification on its potential release status.”
Mannie Fresh is quoted as saying to Montreality about Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V, “It is more of that first Carter, that feel… We [are] still waiting to see what happens with that album. We kind of went back to that original Cash Money feel. Like what you grew up. The Mannie Fresh sound that you knew Wayne and Mannie did.”
Of course, Mannie Fresh wants to see the album released since he had a part to play in many of Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V tracks. As Lil Wayne’s long-time producer, Mannie Fresh also talked about the delay of Tha Carter V and how it was negatively affecting him in February. When speaking with Hip Hop DX, he jokingly said about the Lil Wayne album, “It’s a big royalty check… Mama want another house.”
Regardless, Lil Wayne is not intentionally holding out on anyone, and continues to be baffled about why Tha Carter V has not been released.
According to a Rolling Stone interview with Lil Wayne in February, Tha Carter V is “super done” but that its a “dead subject” for the moment — but still his “stash-house money.”
In a separate interview in early April, Lil Wayne confirmed for Rolling Stone that he had re-filed a $51 million-dollar lawsuit to help get Tha Carter V released. Unfortunately, Lil Wayne is also still delayed with the #FWA that was promised in March (and then again in April). For now, there are no updates or clues online about when Lil Wayne will release any additional music.
