Calvin Johnson Signs $132 Million, 7-Year Deal With Detroit Lions


The Detroit Lions secured the services of wide receiver Calvin Johnson for the next 7-years after the team and their star player agreed to a 7-year, $132 million contract.

Known as “Megatron” to his fans Johnson had just one year left on his contract while his extension will start immediately and run through the 2019 season.

During a news conference on Wednesday Calvin Johnson said:

“I’m so comfortable here now. At first, not at all, but being here for five years, being around these people here in Detroit, teammates and just the city — I’m just growing accustomed to it.”

According to Johnson’s agent Bus Cook the contract comes with $60 million in guaranteed pay.

Speaking of the deal Johnson noted:

“They were happy to get this thing done with, and I was happy as well. It wasn’t a lot of confrontation. We weren’t butting heads or anything. It was just something that we knew needed to get done.”

Johnson is a two-time Pro Bowler who’s 45 touchdowns are the most in the NFL since 2008. Johnson has also managed to pick up 5,000 yards in a four-season span.

Following his massive deal players around the league began to quickly congratulate Calvin Johnson including Adrian Peterson who tweeted:

“Calvin Johnson! Brother you’re Worth every cent!!! But hey,Can I borrow a Dollar! Hahaha Now that’s how its done! Congratulation!”

Things have been looking up for the Detroit Lions when they made their first playoff spot last season after a 12 year drought.
