Face.com Launches Facial Recognition App For Facebook

Facial recognition is coming to Facebook, thanks to a new app launched by Face.com. The app, called Photo Finder, is launching in a semipublic alpha today. The program promises to help you find photos of you and your friends that you don’t even know are out there.

Photo Finder starts by scanning photos you’ve uploaded and the photos on your friends’ profiles. It then detects the faces within each photo and searches Facebook for other photos containing the same people. Photo Finder does respect other users’ privacy settings and finds only pictures that are publicly available to you.

Thus far, Photo Finder has been in a closed private alpha with about 150 people testing it. Starting today, you can check it out for yourself by clicking here.

Face.com is based in Tel Aviv, Israel. It also has offices in New York City. The company is currently angel funded.
