Ben & Jerry’s ‘Apple-y Ever After’ Ice Cream Supports Gay Marriage

The U.K. government is currently debating the issue of same-sex marriage and Ben Jerry’s has added their voice to the conversation. The Vermont-based ice cream maker has renamed “Oh My! Apple Pie” to “Apple-Y Ever After” to show support for gay marriage.

The Ben Jerry’s U.K. website reads:

“This March as the U.K. government debates whether to legalise same sex marriage, we’ve partnered with gay rights organization, Stonewall, to raise awareness about the importance of marriage equality by renaming our Apple Pie flavor, Apple-y Ever After!”

But don’t count on picking up a pint of Apple-Y Ever After at the store. Ben Jerry’s said that the ice crea

m will only be available by the scoop at select stores.

Hispanic Business reports that this is just one of many times that Ben Jerry’s has used an ice cream flavor to support a cause. In 2009, the ice cream company temporarily changed the name of its famous “Chubby Hubby” to “Hubby Hubby” in order to celebrate the legalization of gay marriage in Vermont.

Ben Jerry’s writes on its Facebook page:

“Social justice is at the core of our values and this is why we’re taking a stand to campaign for marriage equality in the UK. Show your support and help convince members of parliament that it’s time to say ‘I do’! Since our humble beginning 34 years ago, Ben Jerry’s has been an advocate for equal rights regardless of sexual orientation.”

Do you support gay marriage? Do you support Ben Jerry’s?
