Jessica Biel Dishes on “Tomboyish” Childhood, Fighting with Kate Beckinsale [Video]

Jessica Biel revealed that in her youth she was far more interested in “snake pits” and “destroying Barbies” than her female peers.

The 30-year-old Total Recall actress, whose engagement to Justin Timberlake was confirmed in January, recently admitted to W Magazine that she was a tomboy growing up.

According to Biel, one of her earliest memories was going to see the classic ’80s movie “The Goonies,” which crystallized the gender divide for her.

“I never identified with girls, and the cast was all boys. Girls were nervous about going into caves; they were scaredy-cats – and I wasn’t into that at all,” the former 7th Heaven star told W magazine for its April issue. “I loved the idea of being with a crew and having an adventure. I was really interested in pits full of snakes.”

Biel continued to describe her childhood habits while playing with the dolls as well as her parents’ reactions.

“My barbies were usually naked. Once, I took their heads off, cut their hair, drew on short, spiky hair with markers, then stuck the heads on Christmas lights,” said the actress. “Every year, we’d string our tree with those Barbie heads. It looked demonic. My parents were so cool – they saw it as a form of self-expression.”

Besides her childhood, Jessica also dished on fighting Kate Beckinsale in her new film Total Recall – scheduled to hit theaters on August 3.

Biel said:

“Our fight scene isn’t overtly sexy, just two trained fighters who happen to be women kicking the sh*t out of each other. It could be two dudes, but we just happened to have long hair and boobs and… other things.

“Kate and I usually fight men in movies, and when you knock into a man, he doesn’t care,” Jessica added. “But every two seconds, Kate and I were saying, ‘I’m so sorry – are you OK?’ We were both so nervous about fighting another woman.”

Biel continued to explain how strange their caution was, “because I have no problem fighting with a guy. In truth, I like doing anything that requires breaking a sweat,” said the actress.

Jessica Biel’s complete interview with W magazine is slated to hit newsstands on March 20th. In the meantime, you can the screen test for the video version of the interview below.
