Sam Smith Cancels Tour Due To Vocal Cord Hemorrhage

Soul singer Sam Smith has been diagnosed with a hemorrhage to his vocal cords, and his doctors have ordered him to stop singing until he is healthy. This is an extremely unfortunate diagnosis for many of Smith’s fans who were looking forward to seeing him perform during the Australian leg of his world tour.

According to CNN, Smith got the bad news while he was in Australia planning his next concerts and gearing up for his scheduled television appearance on Sunday night at the TV industry’s annual Logie Awards. This news means that not only will Sam be missing his tour dates, but he will be forced to cancel his television appearance as well.

“I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour,” Smith says in a message he shared on Instagram.

“I have been vocally exhausted for a while now however last night in Sydney I had a small hemorrhage on my vocal cords. The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue. I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am. This kills me.”

Smith, 22, apologized to all of his fans who bought tickets to the Aussie leg of his In The Lonely Hour tour, and said that he plans on rescheduling those dates for sometime in December. His team is working on getting those dates final and will be announcing them as soon as possible, says Smith.

Smith posted his apology to fans on his Instagram, and he was immediately flooded with thoughts of well wishes from people who just want to see the singer recover to good health as soon as possible. Social media exploded with messages for the Smith, and it did not go unnoticed.

“I love you all and I am so sorry x please keep your eye on my Facebook/Twitter/Instagram for re arranged December dates x,” he wrote.

For now, Smith is still scheduled to perform the Asian leg of his tour which will begin on May 7, in Tokyo. Sam will also be performing at a bunch of summer festivals in Europe, and then will be returning to his fans in North America in July and August. Sam Smith fans can only hope that taking this time off will help the singer recover fully, so he can follow through with the rest of his tour performances.
