Talk Show Cancellation: Bethenny Frankel Reveals What Went Wrong

Following her talk show cancellation, Bethenny Frankel is speaking out, explaining why her short-lived talk show, Bethenny, failed to be successful. In a new interview with Haute Living via an April 29 report by Page Six, Frankel claimed her talk show got the axe because she wasn’t allowed to let loose.

“[The talk show] was way more constricting — it was like directing traffic. It was way more filtered and edited than I like to be.?.?. I have a mouth for nighttime and I can’t be shackled.”

After making her Bravo reality television debut on The Real Housewives of New York City, Frankel stuck around for three years before leaving the show to pursue a series of her own. Following a successful first season of her spinoff, Bethenny Getting Married, Frankel and her husband went on to star in two additional seasons, which were renamed Bethenny Ever After. Then, amid filming on the third season, discussions began regarding a possible talk show, and in 2012, the reality star made her talk show debut in Bethenny.

After a trial run on select networks, Frankel’s talk show went nationwide, premiering in September 2013. However, by February 2014, the talk show had been cancelled after failing to produce the ratings expected. Still, the network continued to air repeats of the talk show until September 2014.

One month later, Frankel confirmed that after a three-season hiatus, she would be returning to The Real Housewives of New York City.

“I felt that people had lost touch with me and thought that maybe I had lost touch.”

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Frankel announced her return to the Bravo series on her personal blog. Below is a portion of what she told fans at the time.

“After many years of hesitation, I have decided to return to my roots on ‘The Real Housewives of New York City.’ I have been through a long and arduous road since my departure, and I’m finally coming out on the other side. It finally feels right to go home again. After my talk show ended, I really had doubts about ever going back to television. I’ve been through a lot personally, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to expose myself to any more public scrutiny. That said, I’ve been so fortunate to be able to connect with the audience and inspire them to fulfill their wildest dreams.”

Although her talk show may have failed, Frankel continues to be a successful business woman and reality star. For more of Frankel, tune into The Real Housewives of New York City on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
