East Point, Georgia Woman Arrested For Threatening Police On Facebook

An East Point, Georgia woman was arrested after threatening police on Facebook, WISTV is reporting.

Atlanta police notified East Point police of the threats posted on Facebook under the name Tiffany Milan. Police determined that the bogus Facebook account belongs to Ebony Monique Dickens and arrested her.

In a Facebook post that has since been deleted, Dickens stated that she wants to kill white police officers.

“All Black ppl should rise up and shoot at every white cop in the nation starting NOW.”

“I condone black on white killings. Hell they condone crimes against us.”

“I’ve thought about shooting every white cop I see in the head until I’m either caught by the police or killed by them. Ha!!!! I think I can pull it off. Might kill at least fifteen tomorrow. I’m plotting now. They reading this s**t too right now. Freedom of speech tho. So when you can absolutely show me the 1st amendment where it explicitly says you can’t say ‘kill all cops,’ then I’ll delete my status. Other than that…NOPE!”

“Death to all white cops nationwide.”

Despite Ms. Dickens’ claims otherwise, the First Amendment free speech protections do not extend to directly threatening the lives of others, according to Michigan State University’s Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives.

“Most exceptions [to freedom of speech] relate to health and safety concerns. Speech that promotes an unlawful end, such as a speech urging people to riot, is not protected. There are exceptions for ‘fighting words,’ ‘terrorist threats,’ ‘defamation,’ ‘obscenity,’ and ‘false advertising.’ However, the exceptions are meant to be narrow.”

Just what constitutes “terroristic threats” on social media is a matter of intense debate, and several cases of people posting messages that have been interpreted as threats – rightly or wrongly – have made the news. Perhaps most famously, Massachusetts man Charles DiRosa was arrested after he posted the words “put wings on pigs” on Facebook, according to this Inquisitr report.

WAGA (Atlanta) reports that the East Point woman admitted to writing the threatening Facebook post when asked about it. She was arrested and charged with one count of dissemination of information to facilitate terroristic threats.

It’s unclear, as of this post, what specifically led to the Georgia woman’s threatening Facebook post, although the threats come amid days of riots and unrest in Baltimore following the police killing of unarmed black man Freddie Gray.
