Vincent Jackson Signs $55.55 Million Contract With Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Former San Diego Charger Vincent Jackson is a free-agent no more. Jackson and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to a five-year, $55.55 million contract on Tuesday after San Diego decided not to slap the franchise tag on the star wideout.

The Schwartz and Feinsod Agency negotiated the contract which secures Jackson $13 million per season for two years followed by $10 million in his third season.

The acquisition will provide Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman with extra depth when Jackson joins Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn who are both short-range targets.

Last season the 29-year-old Jackson caught 60 passes for 1,106 yards and nine touchdowns. His third season in which he ran for more than 1,000 yards.

Over 91 career games Jackson has racked up 272 catches for 37 touchdowns on 4,754 yards.

Jackson however doesn’t come without some player related issues, he sat out most of the 2010 season after he refused to sign his free agent tender which led to a five game season.

Also in the works according to several NFL sources is the Bucs signing of free-agent guard Carl Nicks although that possible acquisition has not yet been confirmed.

If the team can secure Carl Nicks they will receive a two-time Pro Bowler at the guard position. That acquisition however won’t come cheap, Nicks signed a seven-year deal worth $56.7 million with the New England Patriots in 2010 which will make him an expensive acquisition.

Do you think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are getting a good deal for Vincent Jackson or will his past problems with management prove to be a distraction? What do you think about Carl Nicks possibly joining the Bucs roster?
