LG G4 Specs Officially Confirmed, Rivals Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, iPhone 6 Easily

LG made the LG G4 official at a live press event at 11 a.m. EST on Tuesday, according to CNet. It was hosted by Juno Cho, LG Mobile Communications president.

Although CNet reported from the New York City event, LG made LG G4 presentations in various locations worldwide simultaneously, as the Inquisitr reported last week.

Cho confirmed some G4 specs rumors and dispelled others as simple pipe dreams from wishful tech enthusiasts during the official unveiling.

The LG G4 tagline reads, “See the Great, Feel the Great,” because, according to LG, the company wanted to give consumers an “exceptional experience” visually with the flagship device.

“The drive to create an exceptional visual experience has brought us to this: a ground-breaking camera and display, and cutting-edge design and fabrication, all in the palm of your hand.”

Visual and camera experience are among the most important features of any smartphone, as are display type and size, memory size, SD Card capabilities, battery size and life, and processor speed and power.

In this case, consumers expected the LG G4 – as LG’s flagship model – to sport some of the biggest and most robust features and, in many instances, it does.

One rumor confirmed today was that the LG G4 would feature the same 5.5-inch Quad HD, 2560 by 1440 resolution display that packs a whopping 538 pixels into each square inch that the LG G3 does.

While not technically an upgrade, it is a great display. LG combined the display with what Android Headlines says is a brighter screen and more accurate range of colors, so it seems like an upgrade when compared side by side with the LG G3 and competitors.

One obvious change from previous models is that LG G4 offers a choice between a plastic or leather as the case backing. The leather comes in six colors, and the plastic in three.

Keep in mind, however, that not every wireless carrier would carry every color — the carrier you choose determines the colors available.

According to BGR, the LG G4 leather backing is comfortable, even though it looks odd, and “will give the phone character over time as it contours to your touch,” said LG at the press event.

The most notable change is the LG G4 camera, as it sports the biggest improvement to the device over previous models.

According to Venture Beat, LG G4 sports a 16-megapixel main camera on the back and an 8 megapixel camera on the front. Both feature an F1.8 aperture that allows it to take better pictures in low light, among other features. Cho focused on the LG G4 camera quite heavily at the unveiling today.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge both sport a 16-megapixel camera in the back and a 5-megapixel camera in the front with an F1.9 aperture for low light, while the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have a 2.2 aperture. This is no where near as good as the that of the LG G4.

In fact, according to BGR, the iPhone 6 has a “stellar camera,” but doesn’t “think it can compete with what LG has to offer.”

Another feature of note includes the G4’s 3000 mAh removable battery – emphasis on removable because iPhone models never do, while the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge removed the once-removable battery in favor of fashion, according to Forbes. It was a decision that received lukewarm reception at best.

According to LG, other notable specifications include the 32 GB of storage built-in that is microSD expandable up to 1TB, an integrated Snapdragon 808/1.8 GHz 64-bit hexa-core CPU, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth.

What’s surprising is seeing the LG G4 with a USB 2.0, and not the 3.0, the USB standard that’s long overdue for LG, as it would make charging the device much faster.

The LG UX 4.0 “is influenced heavily by Android 5.0 Lollipop,” according to BGR, which comes with an upgraded Smart Bulletin and improved Smart Notice menu that displays unread notifications in cascaded windows.

The upcoming LG G4’s upgraded premium features nestled in a unique, fashion conscious design will certainly give Samsung’s flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, a run for their money – and maybe even Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus too.
