‘Just Cause 3’ Gameplay Trailer Goes Full Michael Bay [Video]

The first gameplay trailer for Avalanche Studio’s Just Cause 3 dropped Tuesday, and it comes with explosions galore. The footage of the open-world action game for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC may bring some smiles to the faces of fans of the previous title in the series.

According to Avalanche, the trailer completely features in-game footage of Just Cause 3. The first trailer for the game was pre-rendered CGI footage and could best be described as a table setter. This new video, however, is meant to be dissected to pick out all the various gameplay features that will be available.

The Wingsuit is the very first new gameplay feature shown in the Just Cause 3 trailer. This will allow Rico, the hero, to fly across the island of Medici. It can be used in combination with the grapple gun.

Speaking of the grapple, it can now be used to tether up to five objects together in the game world. That’s amply demonstrated in the trailer with a car tethered to a car, which is tethered to an airborne helicopter.

What Avalanche is calling the “Reeled Hang” will allow players to hook themselves to the underside of anything in the world. In the case of the trailer, Rico hooks on to the belly of a helicopter and stands up while hanging down and still being able to shoot.

Just Cause 3 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

That’s not the only new vehicle trick that Just Cause 3 is introducing. While your character could stand on top of vehicles in the previous game, they couldn’t move. Avalanche will now allow players to walk freely across the top of vehicles. This includes planes, trains, and automobiles.

There are also the explosions and destruction, of course. Lots and lots of explosions.

Avalanche has upgraded the game’s physics engine to allow for massive explosions and cascading destruction. It helps that the island the game takes place on is an explosion waiting to happen with gas stations, fuel tanks, refineries, and plenty of bombs.

Bridges can be blown up this time as well though. Players will be able to take out the struts to bring the whole bridge down or blow holes in the pavement as part of a death trap.

Just Cause 3 is currently targeting a holiday 2015 release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
