‘The Simpsons’ DLC for ‘Minecraft’ Is Heading To PlayStation Consoles This Week, New Achievements Coming To Xbox

After releasing on Xbox systems earlier this year, Minecraft fans that own Sony consoles will finally be able to pick up “The Simpsons Skin Pack” later this week for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita. According to the official PlayStation Blog, the licensed Minecraft DLC will become available across all platforms later this week.

Mojang’s Owen Hill announced that the add-on will add several new Minecraft skins based on various characters from The Simpsons. In fact, the DLC includes such a large sampling of Springfield characters that Hill joked about the obscurity of some of the skins that are featured within the Minecraft add-on.

“… We’re also bringing a more familiar set of skins this week: The Simpsons, and a bunch of their closest friends, enemies, and acquaintances are coming to PlayStation. The pack includes the whole family along with Principal Seymour Skinner, Groundskeeper Willie, and everyone’s favourite … Dewey Largo … you know who he is, right?”

The officially licensed add-on for Minecraft will bring 24 new skins that were based upon the cast of The Simpsons. The DLC features the children and staff of Springfield Elementary in addition to the Simpson family of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. More characters from The Simpsons are expected to be added to Minecraft through subsequent DLC releases.

New ‘Alex’ skins for Minecraft

However, as the Inquisitr reported, “The Simpsons” DLC won’t be the only new skins coming to the console editions of Minecraft this week. A free update will add a series of new playable female skins to all Xbox and PlayStation versions of Minecraft. The minor update will also introduce new achievements for users to earn in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition.

“Until now, Minecraft: Xbox One Edition has included more achievements than 360 Edition. That’s a bit silly when you think about it. This update will add 30 new achievements to the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft, boosting the potential gains to a smooth 1000 gamerscore. Hunt them down but don’t let them rule your playtime.”

While this week’s upcoming console update for Minecraft only adds a few new player skins, developer 4J Studios told fans via their official Twitter account that they can expect to receive a much more substantial additions with the next planned Minecraft update.

“The next update will be a small one, but we’re currently working on something a bit bigger for the update after that.”

Do you plan on using any of the new Alex or Simpsons skins while playing Minecraft on consoles?
