‘Guild Wars 2’ Offering Existing Players A Chance To Play The Game’s First Expansion Early

Heart of Thorns, the first expansion for Guild Wars 2, has no release date yet, but the beta is just around the corner. Players were recently able to test out the Stronghold PvP on the live servers, and soon, PvE content will be available to test. The developer of Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet, announced today that players can play the game to earn a spot in the Heart of Thorns beta.

Beginning on April 28, players have a chance to find a portal within Guild Wars 2. This trophy item grants the player access to the next closed beta event. Since Heart of Thorns takes place in the Heart of Maguuma, these portals can only be found in the Maguuma Wastes portion of the Guild Wars 2 map. Specifically, players will need to play within Dry Top and The Silverwastes for a chance to find a portal.

These portals drop from enemies within these zones and are not tradable between players. Heroes of Tyria who are lucky enough to find a portal item do not need to hold on to the item either. Once the portal is looted it can safely be discarded since the player’s account is flagged for beta upon looting the item.

The developer also provided a handy beta FAQ concerning Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. Players who manage to enter the beta through the portal promotion in the live game should check it out. There is no non-disclosure on the closed beta tests so players can freely share their experiences in the beta.

Heart of Thorns is adding a plethora of content to the popular buy-to-play fantasy MMO. Aside from the new zones within the Heart of Maguuma and the Stronghold PvP, players can expect a new Mastery system, a new Revenant profession, and much more. There is no level cap increase, but the Mastery system is poised to offer plenty of progression for max level players.

Even the professions are going to change in a major way. ArenaNet outlined upcoming changes to traits and specializations that are coming with the release of Heart of Thorns. The Inquisitr covered the sweeping changes in a brief summary that affect all of the professions in the game. All professions will benefit from a complete trait overhaul in addition to a new elite specialization that unlocks a new weapon for the class. A new healing skill, new utility skills, and a new elite skill also accompany the new weapon skill when using an elite specialization.

Does the method of choosing beta testers encourage you to log on to Guild Wars 2?
